He opens the door as momma shouts for me, but I hear my father pulling her back, demanding her to leave us alone.
I take my girl into the room, and gently place her on the bed. I cup her cheek as Breaker shuts the door, leaning against it, here for silent support.
I gently rub my thumb over my girl's cheek, wiping away her tears, and I whisper, "I know you're scared, Pixie. I know this is something we said we'd wait for. We'restill mourning our beautiful little girl, but baby, you were on the shot, and we both know that there is a one in a hundred chance of falling pregnant. We'rethat one baby, and maybe, just maybe, our Layla sent this baby to us."She sobs, and I grip her hand. "Shall we check our baby?"
Panic hits her beautiful eyes, but she nods like the brave person she is, and I gently kiss her lips again. I grab the machine I had not taken back to the hospital after I “borrowed” it for my brother and his woman.
Swallowing hard, I lift her top, notice the tiniest bump, and smile. We both missed it.
How in the fuck did we miss it?
Gently squirting the gel on her stomach, I grab the doppler and take a deep breath, before looking at Breaker. He nods, encouraging me, and I place the equipment on her stomach, twisting the screen toward us. I press a few buttons, and a 'whoosh-whoosh'echoes in the room, causing my girl to sob. I grip her hand as I look over our baby.
My tears fall as I whisper,"Healthy. Our baby looks healthy, Pixie. There are no signs of any abnormalities."
She grips my hand tight as a click sounds in the room. Breaker leaves us together as we watch the screen, looking at our miracle child. Suddenly, a massive cheer sounds. Ken giggles a little, and I grin.
Shaking my head, I remove the doppler and wipe her stomach, pushing the machine away. I lower my head and kiss her tiny swell where our second child grows, making her sob again. I move so my body is over hers, and I kiss up her chest, to her neck, then place my lips on hers.
I push my tongue into her mouth, making her moan and grip my neck.
A baby, we're having another baby.
I nip her bottom lip before leaning up a little so I can rub my nose against hers.
She still looks scared, but she also looks happy, and I whisper against her lips, "My dearest Pixie…."
She smiles, her tears falling. She finished all the letters, breaking down and reading them, but we've been closer since then, our love strengthening daily. Those letters gave her every piece of me—my hurt, my pain, my love—and I know she misses reading them.
"Today, you told me about our miracle. You told me we’re having another baby, giving our Layla a little brother or sister. I couldn't be happier."
She sniffles, gripping my hair at the base of my neck.
"You complete me, baby, and now you're adding more to our love bubble.
I can't thank you enough for coming back home to me, forgiving me, and gluing my heart together again.
I love you, my Pixie, more than I could possibly express.
Thank you for being you and giving me a reason to live.
I love you.
Your Lucas."
Her tears fall hard before she presses her lips against mine, rasping, "I love you, Lucas. I love you so much."
I kiss her harder, pushing my tongue into her mouth, tangling it with hers, feeling so fucking happy that she came back for me, that she didn't let me give up on us after I fought for so long.
She completes me, and spending the rest of my life with this woman makes me want to live for her and for our children.
Fuck, I'm one lucky bastard to have a wife willing to see past the hurt I put her through to give me her heart, her body, and her soul.
I'll never take it for granted again.
