Clark backed up and walked around the table, putting it and me, between Paul and Larry.
Chicken shit.
Larry pulled out his gun and waved it around.
Paul remained stoic, “Drop your fucking weapon and get on your knees,” he demanded.
“Or what, piggy?” Larry laughed, manically.
I whimpered, worried now. Surely more people would’ve been coming through the door if they’d been here. Clark suddenly backhanded me again at the sound.
“Shut the fuck up, Rebecca,” he ordered.
Paul’s entire body tensed, his attention turning to Clark.
Then Larry lunged.
They were struggling and I was screaming as Clark shouted at Larry to just shoot him already.
“Paul!” I screamed, rolling off the table and hitting my feet, crying out as their burned bottoms hit the floor.
Paul and Larry hit the floor rolling, and I saw a gun, not sure who’s, go sliding across the floor.
I went to grab it as Clark’s arms surrounded me, roughly pulling me back.
A gunshot went off. Then another.
I screamed again. I threw my elbow behind me as hard as I could before kicking, and Clark released me on a curse, hitting the ground.
I scrambled to the free gun, and picked it up, holding it in my shaky hands.
Larry got to his feet, laughing with his back to me. Clark was still writhing behind me in pain, cussing at me.
Paul was laying on the filthy floor, gasping and bleeding profusely from his chest.
I choked on a sob and didn't think. I pointed Paul’s gun at Larry’s back and fired. And kept firing.
I watched until he fell and someone hit me from behind. I tripped forward, dropping the gun, trying to crawl towards Paul.
“Paul!” I yelled, tears streaming down my face.
Paul looked over at me, blood starting to trickle out of his mouth, shaking his head, “Lucas is coming, Becks,” he said. “They’re all coming. This isn’t your fault,” he coughed, spitting more blood out as I continued to sob
I started kicking at Clark’s hands trying to grab me.
“Just hold on a little longer. They’re coming. Tell my girls I love them. Tell them I love them, Becks,” he pleaded, gasping again, and I watched as the light in Paul’s eyes went out.
“No!” I screamed, kicking frantically, suddenly enraged.
“Goddammit, woman!” Clark growled, dragging me towards him, “Fucking bitch! Pig got what he deserved.”
I kept screaming, starting to hit him, raking my fingernails wherever I could, fighting in a way I had never done before.
Clark threw his arm back, and I barely registered his fist coming at me, before pain split through my head, and all I knew was darkness.
Chapter 32
“Paul! Paul?” I yelled into the radio. “Don’t you fucking turn the radio off.”
