He tensed.

"I'm not telling you because it changes anything I've said... I said it because I want to keep being honest with you. If you feel differently, let me know."

The silence stretched on. I didn't rush him. It would've been rude and presumptuous if I did. He needed to figure out what was best for him, and I understood the wall he was up against.

"Did I imagine there being something between us? When you were…" He stopped, letting the words hang in the air. I understood though.

"No. There was. Absolutely. I can say that with certainty now. I could feel the connection between us from the beginning. You gave me so much pause. Made me question what I was doing and why. Only true love follows you through spells and curses, hardships, and trauma. I am still very sorry. I understand the anger. We can do whatever is easiest for you." I hoped that meant trying to move forward.

"No, we'll do what's best for us." He kissed my forehead. “If you think you can also forgive me, I’d like to rebuild us. Start fresh. Heal the wounds and move forward.”

“Agreed.” I leaned up and kissed his lips. “There is something that you can do right now for me.”

“Name it.”

“Devour me like you promised, so we can eat.” I pulled him toward me so he could cover me in his heat.

“Say less.” He entered me slowly, making me sigh in relief.

He spent the rest of the evening making sure that I knew that he’d meant what he’d said.

COLTON

Renee didn’t gain back her ability to mind tap. She gained the ability to glamor humans, convincing them to do what she wanted. She used it to help us find out about additional hiding places for humans so that we could find more hordes of them.

I pleasantly surprised Damon when we communicated the information to him, though he tried to remain serious as he assessed things.

We had two minor problems we needed to work through. The first was feeding. Renee decided that the blonde human was the safest choice for us to take in. Though she was constantly nervous, she wasn’t dangerous. She cleaned well and took pride in the cabin's condition, being a good slave.

I noticed Renee was feeding a lot more, and it made me go back to my initial thought. When I brought the healer in to check her over, he confirmed my suspicions. Renee was pregnant. Had been since the day I tried to strangle her to death. How she continued the pregnancy through all the trauma is beyond me. It explained some things. The blood was able to revive her after both deadly blows. The hair loss, the increased appetite, and the change in her scent. It also made me wonder if the doctor that we saw knew. Sick ass bastard.

He’d examined her breasts and noticed things I hadn’t. Were her pheromones so strong that they made other men interested, too? The doctor. The male who constantly stared at her from the bar. I also observed the other males paying attention to her when she entered a room, drawn to her presence. I always lost my senses around her, too. The smell of her, especially up close and personal, was overwhelming. I didn’t mind it now that she was completely mine.

Excited to expand our family, I welcomed the new experience. I became more protective and hated other males around her. Growing used to the attention, Renee basked in it. Happy to have us back together. My favorite part of the day is when we curled up to sleep. Having her warmth wrapped around me was the best thing.

“Colton,” Renee said while sitting on my lap. She’d just finished eating and was content. “Will I ever be able to see my sister again?”

I wished I knew the answer to that. Right now, all the clans were our enemies. The Disaris Clan kidnapped me, so the chances of us getting on good terms quickly weren’t likely.

“I don’t know. Never say never, though.”

Renee nodded, but I could feel how sad she was about my answer. Stealing a kiss, I distracted her. It led to us making love, but when we’d settled in bed, I could feel the worry settling back in.

Having no answer, I let the unspoken question linger in the air. Why were the two sisters still apart despite them breaking the spell? They’d been inseparable before. Was there something else at play here?

The End… For Now.
