He frowned. “What wasn’t a lie?”
“Us,” I whispered.
“It wasn’t a lie. None of it was a lie. My time with you was the greatest I ever had, and I will treasure it forever,” he said.
I looked at him then, searched his face, not trusting myself to believe what I saw in it, not willing to leave anything else.
“I love you too,” I said.
Adrian smiled, the expression the biggest I’d seen from him. Then he removed my clothes, both of us urgent, desperate to be together again.
After, we lay in the bed, me cradled in his arms exactly as I hoped to be for the rest of my life.
“What now?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” he responded. Then he kissed me. “But we’ll figure it out together.”
