“What are you doing?” she demanded. “Don’ttouch me! I’m your alpha female!”

“Layton,” his father commanded in his alphavoice, immobilizing her. “For crimes against the High Luna, forpracticing dark magic on an unsuspecting victim, and for youractions that led to the demise of my grandson, I sentence you todeath.”

She screeched, but the sentinels ignored itand grabbed her arms. Another stepped behind her and slipped herwrists in a zip tie.

“Z, please! You’re my friend. Greyden, I’myour mate! Do you hear me? I’m your mate!”

The alpha shed his claws and advanced.

“Wait,” Zenia said softly, and everyoneturned to look at her.

“Thank you, Z!” Layton cried.

She stepped up to her old friend and Greydensaw fury cross her face. He didn’t even try to stop her. Her clawscame out and she swiped, blood spurting from Layton’s throat.Surprise and horror twisted her features and a moment later, sheslumped to the floor and bled out.

All watched the life fade from Layton, andGreyden turned to Zenia, wondering if he should’ve stopped her.Hoping this didn’t change her. Greyden hurried over to her, huggingher to his chest.

“Justice has been met. Burn the body andsend her ashes to her uncle.” The alpha turned to Zenia. “Welcometo our family, Zenia. I’m incredibly sad that I never got to meetmy grandson, and it makes my heart hurt knowing that woman took somuch from you.”

“Thank you,” Zenia said. “But she took fromall of us, not just me.”

His father inclined his head, and then gavethem a smile before following the sentinels out the door. All thatremained of Layton was a large pool of blood.

Greyden kissed the side of her head. “Areyou okay? She was your friend, once upon a time.”

“She was never a friend to me,” she replied.“I’m fine, Greyden. Our son is avenged.”

He wrapped his arms around her. “I loveyou.”

She laid her head on his chest. “And I loveyou.”
