I look up at Ms. Gina so she can see that I’m okay herself. She just smiles at me and before she can walk over Jojo pushes herself through everyone. She marches over to me and wraps me into a huge hug.

“What the hell Lux. I was ready to punch everyone if they didn’t move out of my way so I could get to you.” Jo says.

I let out a little chuckle. The thought of Jo acting all badass always puts a smile on my face. I just picture her looking like those old school cartoons where they walk up to the bigger person with their chest puffed out only to get scared off.

“I have some shit to tell you.” She turns towards Ms. Gina.

“Maybe she needs some fresh air, can we go outside for a bit?” She asks, “Please.”

“Okay fine but, if you feel like that again I want you to come tell me or the staff right away. Maybe it’s just nerves from the day.” Ms. Gina turns and walks away.

“There’s something I have to tell you, too.” She turns to look at me with her eyebrow raised.

Chapter Ten

VILLIAN

Everything is starting to fall into place. She doesn’t know it yet but she will. I need her to be strong. She is still a fragile, emotional, little girl. She won’t be able to do what is needed unless she mans the fuck up. Those three fucks think they are so smart but the real joke is on them. I know of their plan and that’s why I made sure to change it.

They weren’t the only ones who lost someone that day. Tomas owed me just as much as anyone and I expect retribution. Kevin always thought he was smarter than everyone else at the table. He thinks he has won but I’ll never allow it. After all, I know where all the dirty secrets are buried, literally. I warned them all too many times and they never listened once.

They thought they finally had her in their hands. She was set to meet with the Stevens’ not the Sorgetti’s but I made a change in plans. I made sure the deal would be completed today. When they arrived, I made sure they had the envelope of cash for that stupid bitch Gina. It was easy especially after I learned more about her and her indiscretions.

She not only likes to play in the snow but also enjoys making extra cash on the side sending broken girls to homes with daddies who will love them a little too much. I feel the sinister smile forming on my face at the thought of what her new daddy will be showing her during her stay. I know her birthday is fast approaching so I need to make sure everything stays on schedule. I have to keep staying hidden and out of the light until it’s time to make my presence known.

They say money can make even the biggest saint sin. When the Sorgetti’s met with me last week, I made sure they knew what was expected, needed, and what they would get out of it. I also made sure they didn’t give up too many details about their boys. I want her to feel like everything is looking up only to discover it never will. At least until she does what I need her to do. I see them heading to their car to leave when a text comes through.

Manny: Order successful

Me: Delivery will be?

Manny: On time

Me: Great

Me: *Payment Sent*

Manny: It was a pleasure doing business with you.

Looking down at my watch I see it’s a quarter to three. Perfect timing, I have a very important date to make. Climbing into my silver Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, I peel out of the parking lot heading north to my destination. Grabbing the joint and lighter from the center console, I hold it between my lips to light the end until I see the cherry turning red. I take a long puff, inhaling deeply until I fill my lungs with the skunky smoke.

Chapter Eleven

WILD CARD

Pulling through the iron gates at White Chapel, I turn left and follow the path around and down the hill. I pull up to the spot that houses the one person I failed to protect. All the same feelings of what ifs and should haves come rushing back. Shutting off the car, I open my door and step out. Walking over to the recently placed headstone, I place my hand on the smooth, cold stone. Tears slip from my eyes and down my cheeks.

“Little Star. I miss you so much. Life hasn’t been the same without you. I should have been with you that night instead of getting my dick wet. Why did you keep it a secret from us, from me? You know I wouldn’t have judged you. Even though Tomas paid with his life, it wasn’t enough. So I found his prodigal princess and I promise to make her suffer. I know if you were here you would tell me to let it go, to leave her be but I can’t. I know I’ll never be whole again or love another person. I’m just left with a huge hole where my heart should be.” I reach up to swipe away the tears. “There is nothing that can be said or done to change my mind. Everything is already in motion. Besides, we all pay for the sins of our parents, right? I’ll be back to visit soon.” I bend over to kiss the smooth surface, turning and walking back to my car.

Getting in, I reach over and turn on the radio flipping through the songs until I land on one I like, turning it up and pulling out of the cemetery when a text comes through.

Rotten Dick: Dinner’s canceled. Something came up.

Me: Okay.

Well, now that dinner is canceled and I don’t have to sit there and play nice, I have some free time. I pull up my phone contacts and find the chat I need, sending a text.

Me: I’m on the way
