Marcus glanced at him uneasily. “This will help. I just need to get it on.”

He grabbed what almost looked like a paintbrush and began spreading the paste over my chest. I thought it would hurt, but the moment it touched my skin, I sighed in relief.

“It’s helping,” Knox whispered in wonder.

“Step back for a moment,” Marcus instructed.

A series of growls filled the air.

“It will give her the best chance for complete recovery,” he explained.

Reluctantly, the guys took a step back. Everyone except for Easton and Cillian, who were already keeping their distance.

Marcus began chanting in a language I didn’t recognize. A green energy emanated from his hands as he held them over me.

My skin heated, and I swore I could feel my flesh knitting back together. A gasp escaped my lips as black smoke lifted from my body. Knox hurried to open a window, and the smoke lifted through it.

A tingling sensation spread through me like a wave, bringing with it energy and…peace? A second later, Marcus dropped his hands and stumbled backward.

Maddox caught him, offering him a stool to sit on.

“Thank you,” Marcus mumbled.

Knox and Cáel were back by my side in a flash.

“How do you feel?” Knox pushed.

I blinked a few times, trying to survey my body. “I feel…great?”

I said it like a question because it shouldn’t have been possible. There was no way.

Cáel dipped a cloth in a bowl of water, gently swiping it across my chest.

I gasped as I looked down. There was no wound. Just the faintest scar you could barely see.

“It’s gone,” I whispered.

Cillian crossed to Marcus, extending his hand. “You have my loyalty for life.”

Marcus’s eyes bugged. “Th-Thank you, Alpha.”

“My enforcers will take you back to your cabin so that you can rest. I’d appreciate it if you could check on Hayden again later today.”

Marcus nodded, getting to his feet. “Of course.”

And then he hurried out of the room.

I pushed up on the bed, my gaze sweeping the space. “Will someone tell me what the hell is going on?”

A muscle in Cillian’s cheek ticked. “We’re dragon shifters. And you’re one, too.”

HAYDEN

My breaths came quicker as I stared at Cillian. Images of the dragons that had filled the sky swirled in my mind. Flashes of Knox transforming, then Cáel.

Dragons. Dragon shifters. That was what Cillian had said.
