I bit the inside of my cheek. “Not particularly.”

Knox grinned. “Good. Because I gotta be honest, your roommate creeps me out a little.”

I pressed my lips together to keep from laughing. “She has a crush on you.”

Knox’s face scrunched up. “She doesn’t even know me.”

And that had to burn. All these people wanted a piece of Knox but didn’t have the first clue as to who he really was.

“Well, you are pretty to look at,” I mumbled.

Knox’s smile was back, wider this time. “Is that so?”

Heat hit my cheeks. “You know you are,” I grumbled. “Too pretty for your own good.”

Knox ducked his head and pressed a kiss to my temple. “Good to know.”

My entire body lit at the brush of his lips against my skin.

“Come on. Don’t want to keep my brothers waiting. They get hangry.”

Flustered, I let Knox guide me toward his SUV and help me inside. In a matter of seconds, we were headed away from campus and into the forest.

“You live outside of town?” I asked.

Knox nodded. “We like having space. It’s quieter. Peaceful.”

I understood that. It was one of the reasons I’d picked Evergreen. Something about the surrounding forests had called to me.

“Delaney said you usually don’t invite people over to your house.”

Knox scowled at the road ahead. “Well, she’s just a fount of knowledge, isn’t she?”

I winced. It had to be hard to have people whisper behind your back so much. “Sorry.”

His gaze flicked to me. “What do you have to be sorry for?”

“It has to be annoying to have people constantly talking about you.”

“We’re used to it. And she’s right, anyway. We don’t usually invite people back to our house.”

A million questions flew through my mind, but I settled on the simplest of them all. “Why not?”

Knox’s fingers tapped the steering wheel. “We’re pretty private. We all get attention for different reasons. It’s nice to have a place where we can just be ourselves. That can’t happen if there are people coming over constantly.”

My fingers dug into my thighs. “But you’re taking me there.”

“You’re different.”

Knox said it as though it were an undeniable truth.

“Different how?” I asked.

He cast me a quick smile. “You belong with us.”

A riot of emotions took flight in my chest. I so badly wanted that to be true. “I’m not sure Easton feels that way.”

Knox’s scowl was back. “Easton’s just a cranky fucker.”
