“We have to go to work,” I say.

“This is the second day in a row you’ve dropped. You’re staying home,” he says, kissing me. “I’ll work until lunch and then come home.”

“I won’t argue. I’m tired,” I say. “Feel free to wake me up like that again if I’m sleeping when you get home.

“Rest. I’ll be back in a second,” he says as he pulls on his boxers and leaves the room. I roll to my side and curl up.

Enzo has court today for his arraignment and I am nervous as fuck. I know there is a chance that he will get out in the next few days, I am trying to make myself not overthink it. He doesn’t know where I moved to. He doesn’t know my new number. He knows where I work, but there is no way he will get into that building. Not when Matt, Luca, and Milo are there. Kaia also works there now, so I’m not concerned. I have no reason to think he is coming after me. Paul and Rita are in jail, so he has full control over basically everything they own. He will just live his life and leave me alone… right?

“Here,” Matt says as he hands me a glass of orange juice. I prop up on my elbow and take a sip. He doesn’t move so I realize he wants me to drink all of it. When I finish the glass, he takes it from me before leaning down and kissing me. “I’ll be back with breakfast in a bit.”

“Thank you, Matt,” I say.

“You’re welcome, Aurora,” he says. “Are you alright?”

“Yeah, just thinking about court,” I say. Matt kneels beside the bed to look at me.

“No matter what happens, it will be okay,” he says. “I know life experience has taught you differently, but I promise everything will be okay.”

“I want to believe you,” I say. “It’s just hard. I’m okay though. I promise.”

“Okay,” he smiles. “Give me just a few minutes and I’ll be back.”

When he leaves the room, I make myself think about something else. The next thing I know, Matt is gently shaking me awake. “Mmmm,” I groan as I sit up.

“I’m sorry, baby. Eat and you can go back to sleep,” Matt says. He waits until I get situated and hands me a plate of eggs benedict. He sits in front of me with his plate.

“Are you sure I’m okay to stay here?” I ask.

“Yeah. There are no meetings today and you don’t have anything to do that can’t hold off until Monday,” he says.

“Well, I’m going to sleep for a little then probably read. I know you’ll get pissy if I clean,” I say.

“Yes,” he confirms. “You can do whatever you want when your blood sugar is stable. When you start crashing, you have to rest.”

“You take such good care of me,” I smile before taking a bite of my food. “I feel like I don’t return the favor.”

“Aurora,” he says. “Just a few weeks ago when I got that nasty stomach bug, you were waiting on me hand and foot for three days. You take care of me just as much as I do for you.”

“It was that or you’d drown in your own vomit,” I say.

“Well, thank you for not letting me drown,” he laughs.

We finish our food and he takes our plates to the kitchen before returning to dress for work. I watch him get dressed in his black and blue Armani suit before going to the bathroom to finish getting ready.

When he comes out, he walks over to kiss me goodbye. “Fuck, you smell good,” I say when he kisses me.

“It’s the cologne you bought me,” he says.

“Damn. I have good taste,” I smile.

“Rest, tesoruccia,” he says. “I’ll be home around one.”

“Okay. Drive safe please,” I say as he walks to the bedroom door.

“Always,” he says with a sweet smile. “And Aurora…”

“Yes?”
