“Fuck, they’re here,” Kaia says as the door comes open.
“Take care of it or I will,” I say to Luca and Milo when she clings to me.
“What do we have here?” a man about my age asks with humor in his tone.
Chapter Nine
Aurora
I am holding onto Matt for dear life. I hardly know this man, but instinctively I know that he won’t hurt me. Not like my brother has. I know he’s going to protect me even if it’s just for right now. My parents and my brother will automatically assume I’m here for a rape kit, especially after calling him out like I did last night. If they think that I will go to the police, they’ll fucking kill me. The one time I threatened it, Dad beat the shit out of me.
“What do we have here?” Enzo says, almost laughing. I have my arms around Matt’s waist and my face buried in his chest as he holds me. If Enzo gets a hold of me, I’m fucked. He will cause me so much pain seeing me seek comfort in another man. Never mind the fact that we’re sitting in a hospital and they likely think that I’m here to cause them legal trouble.
“Aurora. Who are these men?” Dad demands.
“Your worst fucking nightmare if you don’t leave,” Luca growls. He is standing beside Matt as he sits beside me to hold me. Milo is beside Kaia who is practically glued to my side.
My sobs are becoming audible as they shake through me. I’m so fucking terrified right now that I can’t think straight. The only thing keeping me from curling up into a ball is the fact that he’s holding me. “Shhh. You’re okay,” Matt says softly.
“Answer the question,” Enzo barks at me, making me flinch.
“Don’t say anything,” Kaia says to me. “Not a word.”
“Remember what I told you last night?” Enzo asks me.
It’s one thing to threaten me, but to threaten my best friend pisses me off. I turn to look at him with tears, streaking my face. “Get out.”
“Excuse me?” Enzo asks.
“Get out,” I suddenly scream. “Get out. Get out. Get out.”
“Shh shh. Breathe,” Matt says softly. He cups my cheeks and makes me look at him. “What did he say? What is he trying to remind you of?”
“He threatened to rape Kaia if I fought him again,” I whisper.
“What on earth is going on?” the nurse asks as she storms in.
“They’re not supposed to be here,” Kaia says. “You people have it in writing that they are not supposed to be around her but you fucking let them in here anyway. Get them the fuck out of here.”
“I need you all to leave,” the nurse tells my parents and brother.
“We are her next of kin,” Mom says.
“I don’t care who you are. She is of sound mind so she gets to make her decisions,” the nurse says. “Aurora, do you want them to leave?”
“Yes,” I say with a shaky voice. “Please, make them leave.”
“Okay. I need you all to leave before I call security,” she says, placing herself between me and my family. “Now.”
“You’ll regret this,” Enzo says ominously.
“Don’t make me ask again,” the nurse says. My family hesitates, but they turn and leave the room. “I’m so sorry, Aurora. The woman at the front desk is new. I will report this. I saw on your chart that there were people not allowed to be here. I assume they are those people?”
“Yeah. How did they even know I was here? I just got here.” I ask.
“I don’t know,” she says as a doctor comes in.
“Everything okay, Maggie?” he asks the nurse.
