“Yeah. Why?” Kaia asks.

“Aurora warned me that you may be a bit intense,” he laughs.

“Somehow I feel like she used a different word than that,” Kaia says, relaxing.

“She did, but I’ll be nice and not repeat it,” he laughs. “She’s okay, guys. She needs rest, but she’s okay.”

“How long until we can take her home?” Jennifer asks.

“So long as you and David are checking in on her, I’ll let her go home in a few hours,” he says.

“Is that safe?” I ask. “What if…”

“It is safe. Just keep an eye on her,” Aaron says.

“I can stay with you all if you want,” Dax says. “Obviously it’s not my area of expertise, but I know enough to handle it if something happens.”

“That will work,” I say. “I’m sure she will like having you guys around.”

“She won’t like all of the attention,” Kaia says. “But she will get over it.”

“Can we go see her?” I ask.

“Yeah. Her blood sugar is pretty low so her nurse is having her eat,” he says as he stands. “I’ll take you guys.”

Chapter Twenty-Five

Aurora

“Here you go,” Ashley, my nurse, says as she sets my food down on the table that is pulled over in front of me.

“Thanks,” I say. The door comes open and I only see Aaron first, but then Matt comes in behind him. Tears immediately slide down my cheeks as he rushes to my side. He sits beside me and gently hugs me.

“I was so scared,” he admits quietly.

“I know. I’m sorry,” I say. “Is he dead?”

“Yeah. He’s dead, Aurora,” Matt says as he cups my face.

“How? Everything got blurry when he stabbed me. I thought it was you first that fell but I guess that was him,” I say.

“Uhhh,” Matt laughs.

“He snapped his neck,” Dax says as he comes around to my other side. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay,” I say as I motion for him to hug me. He moves my table so he can sit beside me and hug me. “Thank you, Dax.”

“You’re welcome, short stuff,” he says softly. “I hope I never have to do that again, but I will.”

“Do what?” I ask as I pull away to look at him.

“Did no one tell her?” I ask Aaron.

“No,” Aaron says.

“Tell me what?” I ask.

“Your heart stopped, Aurora,” Dax says. “I did CPR until Mom and Dad got there. Mom got you back and we drove you to the hospital.”
