I pull into the parking lot of Russo Group Incorporated and check my hair and makeup before getting out. I am so nervous, but at least I ate this morning. My blood sugar was a beautiful 85 when I left, so I shouldn’t have any issues.
I can’t seem to find out why my blood sugar drops the way it does. The only thing I’m ever told is to lose weight. I was given a meter and told to keep track of everything. Even with all of the proof that it’s crashing daily if I’m not constantly eating, I can’t seem to find a doctor that gives a shit.
“Welcome to Russo Group Incorporated,” a little blonde woman says when I walk in the door. “How can I help you?”
“I have an appointment with Mattia Russo at two,” I say sweetly.
She looks at the computer and clicks around for a second before perking up. “Ah yes. So, you’ll actually be meeting with Francesco Russo. You can take the elevator to the fourth floor. His office is at the end of the hallway to the left.
“Thank you,” I say kindly. I go to the elevator and walk to Frankie’s office. I knock lightly and wait for him to answer.
“It’s open,” he calls out. I push the door open and he smiles brightly at me. “Aurora. I’m sorry for the change in plans. Matt had some things come up with one of our restaurants that he needed to take care of.”
“That’s quite all right,” I say sweetly and I walk into the office. I hand him my resume before sitting in one of the chairs in front of his desk.
“He will come by when he gets in so you two can meet,” he says as he looks over my résumé.
“I appreciate you meeting with me. I’m sure you’re busy,” I remark.
“Never too busy for this,” he says with a chuckle. “So, I’m just going to go over the position first, then you can ask your questions.”
“Okay,” I say happily.
“So you will be an executive assistant for Mattia. You will accompany him to all meetings, in the office or out of the office. You’ll keep notes of the meetings so he can have a reference for what the meetings were about. You will also keep track of his appointments and any responsibilities that he might have. There might be an occasion where he will have you run personal errands that he is not able to get to but for the most part, he will likely not have you do anything like that. Occasionally you might have to help his brothers with things in the office as they do not have assistants just yet. My sons are only just realizing that life is easier with an assistant.”
“It’s good to have another set of eyes to make sure the fine details are still there when going through a project,” I agree.
“Precisely,” he smiles.
“When he goes on overnight trips, you will have to go with him,” Frankie says. “All your expenses will be covered, so no need to worry about that.”
“How long are these trips generally?” I ask.
“Once a year, there’s a one-week conference that he attends, otherwise it will be for no more than two nights every few weeks,” he says. “These meetings usually involve one or both of his brothers, so you’ll travel with the three of them on our private jet.”
“That’s not a problem,” I say. Anything to get me further away from my family every now and again.
Frankie goes over in detail more of what Matt does, and how I will be of assistance. He is typing on his computer for part of his explanation, and when he gets done talking, he stands up and goes to the printer. “So I just have one last thing for you,” he says as he staples the papers and lays them on the desk in front of me with a pen. “Read over it and let me know if you have any questions.”
“Is this a contract?” I ask.
“Yes,” he says.
“Uhm. Wow. Okay,” I say. “Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome, Aurora,” he says. “I think you will be a wonderful addition.”
I am reading over the contract when Frankie’s desk phone rings. “Hello… Yeah, she’s reading the contract right now… Uh, yeah. I’ll just bring her down there… That’ll give you two some time to talk if she has any questions about the contract… Okay… We’ll be there shortly.” He ends the call and looks up at me.
“Moving to his office?” I ask, glancing up at him.
“Yeah. You’ll get to meet Luca and Milo also. I think I heard them in the background, he says before he stands. “You can finish reading down there.”
I follow Frankie down the hallway and to the opposite end of the floor before knocking on the door. “Come in,” a man with a familiar voice calls out.
I can’t seem to place the voice until the door swings open and I see him. I see all three of them. “Oh shit,” I say, stopping dead in my tracks. Frankie turns and smiles before talking to his son.
“I have an errand to run,” Frankie says. “Aurora, should you sign it, you can start Monday.”
