“Check for more and call dispatch,” he says.

“What am I telling dispatch?”

“Just tell them that Aaron is requesting a second opinion,” he says as he looks around the room.

“What are you not telling me?” Aurora asks.

“That camera I mentioned was in your bedroom, Ma’am,” he says. “I’m calling a detective because someone has your house bugged and now all of your underwear are missing.”

“Fuck,” Aurora says. “Fuck. No. You guys have to go. I’m not doing this.”

“Woah woah woah,” I say as I turn her to face me. “Take a deep breath.”

“He will kill me,” she says.

“I promise you he won’t, Aurora. This is going too far. You can’t let him get away with this,” I say, cupping her cheek.

“I’m scared,” she admits.

“I know, but I’m not going anywhere. None of us will leave you alone. I promise he won’t ever hurt you again,” I say.

“Okay,” she says.

“Tell him Aurora,” I encourage her. She nods and turns to the cops.

“Uhm… It was my brother,” she says quietly.

“Okay,” the cop says carefully. “What’s his name?”

“Lorenzo Anderson,” she says.

“Aurora,” Kaia says. “Please say it.”

“He’s… abused me… for most of my life. He was angry that I’m trying to cut him out of my life and thought I was at the hospital earlier to make a report… This was his way of reminding me he could get to me. I didn’t know he had cameras in here.”

“Did you make a report at the hospital?” he asks.

“Kinda. I disclosed it knowing my doctor is a mandated reporter. I didn’t name Enzo though. I also didn’t have a rape kit done. Just a swab for anything he could have given me.”

“That’s alright. The doctor will notate anything abnormal,” he says.

“Kaia was there,” Aurora says. “My parents had her trapped in the dining room so she couldn’t get to me.”

“Would you be willing to make a statement?” the cop asks Kaia.

“Happily,” she says.

“What now?” Aurora asks.

“Now, I get statements and give them to the detective when they get here. You can either hang out and talk to them or I can have them call you tomorrow to set up a time to meet,” he says.

“Which is better?” Kaia asks.

“Personally… It’s going to go much smoother for you if you wait for the detective,” he says.

“Fine,” she sighs.

“How would she go about getting a restraining order?” Kaia asks.
