“No. Tell me,” Kaia demands.

“Because Enzo is on the goddamn account, Kaia,” Aurora shouts. “He fucking watches everything in that account, so I don’t use it. Everything I have is in cash. Why do you think I chose a job that pays in cash?”

“Stop worrying about money for a second and listen to me,” Kaia says.

“Don’t even say it. I’m not taking shit from you,” Aurora says, shaking her head.

“You are going to have to get over this pride bullshit real fucking fast, Rora,” Kaia says. “I love you, so I’m not going to sugarcoat shit for you. If you want to be free of him, you have to let us fucking help you. Stop being so stubborn and just let me buy the fucking panties.”

“Fine. Just stop saying that word,” Aurora says.

“What, panties? You don’t like that word?” Kaia asks with a smile.

“No. Knock it off,” Aurora frowns.

“You must not like the word moist then,” Kaia teases.

“I’m going to throw you out of a window. Shut up,” Aurora says, cracking a smile.

“There’s my girl,” Kaia smiles and hugs Aurora. “I will annoy the hell out of you if it means I get to help you live a happier life.”

“Yeah. yeah,” she says as there is a knock at the door. She freezes and Kaia squeezes her.

“It’s just the cops,” Luca says. “I’ll get them.”

We return to the living room when we hear Luca talking to the police. “Yeah, it’s her place,” Luca says to the cop when he sees Aurora.

“Good evening, Ma’am,” the cop says kindly.

“Evening,” she says with a sigh.

“Tell me what’s going on?” he asks. Aurora goes through everything but doesn’t mention her family at all. She brings up the underwear, and the cop tilts his head slightly in confusion.

“All of them?” he asks.

“Yeah.”

“So… Do you have another place to stay?” he asks.

“Yeah. She’s moving,” Kaia says for her.

“Okay. Mind if we take a look around and take some photos for the report?” he asks.

“Go ahead,” Aurora says. I pull her into my arms and hug her when his partner comes in and they walk through the apartment snapping photos.

They are meticulous, which tells me they are suspicious about all of her underwear going missing. That’s not something someone steals when breaking into a home unless it’s sexually motivated. I can feel how tense Aurora is. I wish I could make it better, but I can’t. All I can do is just be here for her and help where I can.

“How long have you lived here?” the cop asks as he walks back into the living room.

“Two years, why?” she asks.

“So you’ve had the cameras the whole time? Any chance they caught what happened?”

“Excuse me?” Aurora asks, turning to face the cop who looks confused again. “I don’t have cameras. What the fuck are you saying?”

“Jared,” the cop calls out.

“Yeah?”
