“I know. I know. Is it coming up now?” Aurora asks.
“It’s 85. For now. You need to eat soon but also start eating more often,” she tells Aurora.
“If you had been alone that could have been bad,” I say.
“I know,” she says. “You didn’t have to come with me.”
“Kaia was pretty insistent,” I say. “Also, I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Why?” she asks.
“Believe it or not, Aurora, people do care about you,” I say.
“Why do you care?” she asks bluntly.
“Do I need a reason?” I ask.
“I… I don’t know,” she says.
“Also, Kaia said that she would kill me if your parents or brother got called,” I say.
“Please don’t tell me you called them,” she asks, starting to panic.”
“No. No, I didn’t call them. I just asked her if I should call and she said she or you would kill me.” We pull up to the hospital and I get out with her.
“There is a high likelihood they are about to find out,” she says. “They know a lot of people.”
“Is it that bad if they show up?” I ask.
“If they show up then my brother will show up too,” she says vaguely.
I walk with her as they get her into the hospital. She is moved into a room and I keep holding her hand as they get her settled. I don’t know why, but I don’t wanna let go of her.
I am pretty calm under pressure and when I’m stressed out I don’t think I’ve ever been that scared before.
“She needs something to eat,” I say to the nurse.
“Oh, just wait. Kaia is about to be here. She’ll bring something,” Aurora says.
“Just let me know if you need me to grab something,” the nurse tells her. “I’ll have the doctor in here soon.”
“I have a headache now,” she frowns.
“I bet so,” I say.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why?” I ask. What could she possibly have to be sorry for?
“Well, first, I dumped wine on you then panic fondled you. Then the next time you come in, I pass out.
“Can I ask you something?” I ask cautiously. The door comes open and a woman comes in. Aurora knows that she’s there, but she keeps looking at me instead.
“What?” she asks me
“When I told you that I was interested in you yesterday and you looked scared… Does that have anything to do with yours and Kaia’s reaction to me, mentioning your family?”
“Yes,” she says tearfully.
