“I love you too, Aurora. You are always a nervous wreck after being around them, so I like to make it as easy on you as possible.”

“I’m ready to just get this over with and hang out with you,” I say.

Chapter Four

Mattia

I walk back into the office and stop to look at my brothers. “What?” Luca asks.

“So… Aurora asked me why I was insistent on her taking the job, right?” I ask as I sit down.

“Easy,” Milo says. “You like her and want her close.”

“Right. So I was blunt and said, more or less, that I was interested in her. She suddenly looked scared,” I say.

“What? Why? Did you try to fondle her back, or something?” Luca asks.

“No. I was just looking at her. I may have been thinking some pretty dirty thoughts, but I never even moved. And when I say scared, I mean she looked like she was seconds from crying before I spoke and she pulled herself out of wherever she went,” I explain. “I asked her about it and she said it wasn’t anything I did. She just had a bad memory come up.”

“She’s been assaulted,” Luca says. “Allison once told me that in the beginning when I looked at her a specific way when I was thinking dirty, it would send her right back to that place when she was a teen and got assaulted by her neighbor.”

“Fuck,” I say as I sit back. “Someone at the restaurant?”

“I doubt it. Maria knows everything that happens in that place. She would kill someone if they hurt one of her servers,” Milo says.

“If she wants to open up, she will,” Luca says. “If you think it’s possible you triggered her, don’t push her too far.”

“I won’t,” I say.

“She’s a brat though,” Luca laughs.

“God, I’m going to get myself into some shit with her,” I sigh and lay my head back.

“I know you love sassy little brats,” Milo remarks.

“Fuck, I just want to bend her little ass over,” I tell my brothers.

“And fuck her or spank her?” Milo asks.

“Yes,” I say simply and they laugh.

“Maybe it’s a good thing Dad did this. If the feelings end up mutual, which I think they are, you could get Mom and Dad off your ass about getting married,” Luca says.

“No. I’m not getting married. I’ve made that clear.”

“Matt,” Luca sighs.

“No. We spent our entire lives wishing Mom would leave Dad. I’m not marrying someone just to end up treating them the same way,” I say, shaking my head.

“You are not Dad,” Milo says. “So what, you have a temper. You have always coped well with it. You know your limits and you put that into the fights. Stop comparing yourself to him.”

“No,” I say again. “It’s not happening.”

“I don’t know, man. She keeps sassing you, something’s gonna happen,” Milo says.

“Not if she looks terrified,” I say as the door comes open.

“You get her set up?” Dad asks.
