“The truth?” he asks, turning to me.

“Please.”

“Because you challenge me,” he says. “Robert made a comment when he came out to talk to us and said that after today you were my problem and said you were needy.”

“That’s nice compared to what he says to me,” I say.

“For his sake, maybe I shouldn’t know what you mean by that,” Matt says. “The woman I met last night and even today, is far from needy. You interest me.”

“You’re interested in me?” I ask, raising an eyebrow at him.

“Very much so,” he says. Matt has a soft smile on his face and for a split second, I see something that scares the fuck out of me. I know the look is harmless coming from Matt, but seeing lust in his eyes reminds me of how Enzo looks at me when he gets me alone. It validates my fear that he’s going to hurt me tonight. He hates when I avoid him so I know he will be absolutely brutal when he corners me tonight. “What’s that look?”

“Sorry,” I whisper. “I uh… Some not-so-nice memories just surfaced.”

“Is it something I did?” he questions.

“Not directly. No. You’re okay,” I say reassuringly. “I just didn’t expect that memory to come up. Thank you again, Matt.” The elevator doors come open and I step out.

“You’re welcome, Aurora,” he says with a soft smile. “I’ll see you later.”

I return his smile before turning to walk toward the exit. Once I get into my car, I call Kaia.

“Hey, babe. How’d the interview go?” she asks.

“I start on Monday,” I say, smiling.

“Oh my God! That’s amazing, Rora,” she says happily. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Yeah. Hold on,” I say. “Last night my sugar crashed, right?”

“Dumbass not give you a break?” she asks.

“No. So, I sold a bottle of wine that was over three grand. After I brought their food out, I went to pour more for them.”

“Oh. I don’t like where this is headed.”

“I dropped the bottle and got it all over the guy. He jumped up because it was coming off the table. My awkward ass fucking fondled him with a napkin because I panicked. I guess I was trying to minimize the mess? I don’t know.”

“What does this have to do with your new job though?” she asks.

“The guy I felt up, is my new boss. I had no fucking idea until the owner walked me to his office today.”

“You fondled Mattia Russo?” she asks loudly.

“Mhmm. I’d never met him before so I didn’t know. He never comes in and eats that late,” I say.

“Oh, what I could give to touch that man,” she swoons.

“Well, the way he looks at me makes my insides feel like soup,” I say and she laughs.

“Aurora has the hots for her boss!” she says in a sing-song voice.

“Yeah yeah,” I say. “Are you still coming with me tonight?”

“I am,” she says. “I am actually sitting on your couch. Wine is in the fridge and I’ve already picked movies out for when we get back.”

“I love you,” I say with a sigh as I drive.
