“I mean it. I kill you.”
“If you think I’m so depraved, why did you call me to rescue her?”
“Because Twist is in Monaco, Micah is in San Francisco, and Mary Varvara’s hitmen were on their way to kill her because you led them to her.”
Fair enough. “Does Mary Varvara Bell know where my house is?”
“How am I supposed to know what Mary Varvara does or does not know?” Logan demanded.
The hint of a whisper of a thought irritating the back of Blaze’s brain finally solidified and presented itself. “How did you know that she sent those idiots to Sarah’s farm in the first place?”
“You threatened Mary Varvara Bell, for God’s sake, and she responded because she always hits back, hard. Anyone could’ve figured that out. My grandfather despised her even though she was his daughter. Now it’s your job to save my goddamn sister from what you started. Get Sarah and bring her to my apartment in Manhattan.”
“Any reason for that?”
“Because I’m the only family she has left, and I can keep her safe.”
The phone went dead in Blaze’s hand, and he swore a fiery streak at the warm night outside the bullet-proof, blast-proof, completely transparent windows comprising the back wall of his house.
To hell with the ego-inflated architect. Blaze should’ve torn down this Swiss cheese house and built Fort Knox on the cliffside overlooking Lake Michigan. Any military strategist would have constructed a castle on that promontory to defend the harbor, not built a pretty R&R base.
The house alarm panel beside his bedroom door beeped and flashed a red light.
Blaze checked the message.
Level 3 Warning, the screen said. Possible breach on the lower level, bedroom three.
That was Sarah’s bedroom.
Blaze tore out of his room and down the hall, slamming himself against the guest room’s door jamb and shoving the door open.
The door slammed into the wall behind it.
She stood with one foot braced on the low wall below her bedroom windows, trying to jimmy open the window with a pen to climb out.
The guest room didn’t have full sliding glass doors to the pool deck, which was why he’d put her in there.
Sarah glanced back at him with a grimace.
He leaned against the doorframe and crossed his arms. “Is that working?”
“Well, it’s not going to now,” she retorted.
“The house alarm system alerted me that someone was attempting to break into this room.”
Sarah took her foot off the window and turned around, leaning with her butt against the protruding edge of the low wall. “Well, dang. I didn’t think your house alarm was that smart.”
“Look, it seems that I have abducted you, but the truth is that I’ve rescued you. Your brother asked me to ensure your safety. It’s for your own good.”
Sarah snorted, scoffing, and rolled her eyes until she stared at the far wall. “For my own good, huh? Are you going to tie me up again for my own good?”
Every muscle in Blaze’s body clenched.
When he’d been binding her with the kinbaku ropes in his office, the fearful apprehension in her dewy dark eyes contrasted with her absolute obedience. His hands had been shaking as he’d tied the final few knots, drawing the knotted rope between her lips and gagging her.
Now, the thought of tying her while she was on her knees—her long hair trailing down her naked back, her hands crossed at the wrists behind her, her dark eyes limpid as he raised her chin with one finger and told her to open her mouth like a good girl—zinged along his nerves like fire.
Oh, the things he could do to such a submissive woman, the ways he could bind her, the ways he could play with her body, building the tension until she was a sobbing wreck and then destroying her with pleasure.
