Behind and under Sarah, the chair jostled.

Then he stood in front of her again, leaning down and glaring straight into her eyes, holding the gold rope with a knot near her cheek. “Open.”

Her cheeks warmed with him so near, her body so sensitive, and she didn’t know what he meant.

Blaze said, his voice lower, almost menacing, “Open your mouth.”

She parted her lips, scared.

He pressed the rope between her teeth and pulled it hard against the corners of her mouth.

Sarah probed the rope with her tongue, feeling the hard length and sharp knot holding her jaw open.

The knot sat on her tongue like he’d forced it into her mouth, like it was his tongue, or his finger, or his—

Her mind darted away from the thought.

Blaze walked behind her, secured the rope to the chair’s posts, and then dropped other loops around her chin and over her forehead and tightened them, tying her head against the back of the chair.

She couldn’t move anything.

Blaze sauntered around her, his stride casual and smug like he’d gotten what he’d wanted: her utter helplessness.

Standing in front of her, he leaned down, bracing one arm on the back of the chair over her head. “Relax.”

She couldn’t. Every muscle in her body was clenched, straining against the ropes tying her down. The only things she could move were her eyes.

Blaze stared down at her, almost not blinking. “I’m in control, now. You can’t do anything. Relax.”

He was right. If she wore herself out statically straining against immovable ropes, she’d exhaust herself and be too tired to run if she got the chance.

She breathed, and those knots slid over her nipples, which were now so sensitive that a shiver ran through her.

The knot in the rope sat in the middle of her tongue. She could slide her tongue out from underneath it and explore the knot, even lick it. With her tongue resting on the bottom of her mouth, that knot felt like he was about to force something larger down her throat.

Blaze’s voice was gentle, but his stare was intense. “Rest. You don’t have to do anything. No one is depending on you. You have nothing to do but breathe.”

With that reminder to breathe, she sipped in a breath as deep as the corset allowed, and the knots rubbing her tight nipples roughened.

His mouth was so close to hers as he hovered over her, just inches, the rope in her mouth rough on her swollen, sensitive lips.

“I’m going to make the call now. Don’t move. Don’t make a sound unless you want me to stop.”

Sarah’s body quivered under the ropes, not in fear but from the vibrations of his voice in the air shuddering over the skin of her face and neck.

He moved away, and she fell against the ropes, trying to follow the magnetic force of him without a thought about how she was tied to the chair.

Blaze sat at the table and dialed a number on the computer that Sarah recognized as Abigail Yoder’s cell phone.

He spoke softly into a microphone on his desk, and somehow, Sarah’s own voice came through the speakers, speaking in unison with Blaze. “Hi, Abigail, this is Sarah. I was just wondering if Charlie and HowNow showed up over at your house? They got out this morning.”

Abigail’s voice said, “They sure did. I turned them out to pasture with their respective species, and I brought Muffintop over to my house since you’re indisposed. She’s sitting on Daniel’s lap now, purring up a storm. Are you okay? I had a call from the hospital saying you had to be in there for a while.”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” Blaze said, his voice syncing with Sarah’s from the speakers. “I tripped and wrenched my back, and I haven’t been drinking enough water, I guess.”

“Oh. Hydration is so important.”

“I didn’t break anything, but they said the physical therapy was going to take at least a few weeks, maybe a month.”
