“Did they?” she countered, looking up at me as her smile slowly faded. I realized my words had not been chosen correctly. Her mask hadn’t stopped her boyfriend from taking a piece of her that she could never truly recover. Why did she tell me this? Why would she ever draw a connection between us that had nothing to do with the torture we liked to inflict on each other? We shouldn’t be similar. We were opposites, born into completely different lives and choosing paths that should never have brought us back together, if she had not made my life a living hell when we were kids. How dare she even try to get underneath my skin in such a way?
“You will not fool me,” I growled.
“Of course not,” she agreed, bringing her smile back, yet it was a taunting gesture.
“Everything that comes your way, you deserve.”
“I know.”
“So don’t think your past traumas will change my view of you.”
“I don’t.”
“Stop!” I shouted, frustrated that she seemed to agree with me on every point. “You’re good, Alison. I know what you’re capable of with a few tears and some sweet words. But don’t think for a moment that I’ll ever see you as anything but a horrible person.”
“I am a horrible person.”
“Enough!”
“But it’s true!” she shouted back. “You’re right about me! I know what I am. I’m not blind. I know what I did to you. You don’t think I know that it’s all because of me that I ended up where I am now? Since you brought me into your life, I’ve contemplated getting back at you once I’m free, but you’re not wrong. It’s just toxic between us. Even now, it seems you can barely believe that my boyfriend actually violated me in my own bedroom. You think I’m just trying to gain sympathy points, but that’s not the case. I’m telling you because I know that when our time together is over, we’ll never see each other again. You’ll be out of my life, and you’ll take my secrets with you, those you dug up yourself and those I handed to you. I don’t have to worry about telling you all of this. Honestly, you’re probably the only one I can tell because if I ever tried to express the pain I feel every day, people would laugh at me. They’d think that’s the act. Because how could my life not be perfect, right? How could I ever complain? You’re the only one who will ever believe me because you’re not wrong. You know me, Jared. You know when I lie. You know when I manipulate. You hate that right now, I’m speaking the truth, but it is the truth, and you’re the only one I will ever tell this to.”
“You shouldn’t.”
“I should,” she countered.
“I could use it against you. I want to.”
“Then do it. Tell me I deserved it. Tell me that what Kyle put me through was just a minor thing compared to everything I put you through. Tell me!”
She forcefully pressed her hands against my chest, attempting to push me away while insisting that I cause her pain. I could hurt her. I could be cruel and tell her it was all her fault, but it pained me to acknowledge that she wasn't entirely incorrect. I had an uncanny ability to discern when she lied. I knew her toowell, and in this moment, I was certain she wasn't pretending. The desperation in her plea for me to hurt her revealed her true intentions. She wanted the pain to replace the old one. She desired me to break her soul, hoping it would help her forget.
“Come on!” she urged. “You want to! I deserve it!”
“You deserve it.”
“So do it,” she snarled, trying to move closer to me, but my grip on her hair tightened, and she winced. “Tell me I asked for it. Tell me that those agonizing minutes he spent on top of me and all the following times when I scrubbed my skin red afterward, I deserved just as much. I even wanted it. Tell it to me. I’m just your slave, after all. A slave deserves nothing less, right?”
“You scrubbed your skin red?” I asked, watching her with confusion in her eyes.
“He made it feel like I couldn’t get him off me.”
How many times had I done the same thing? How many hours had I spent washing myself clean, feeling as if the dirt would never go away? Shit, why was she doing this to me?
“Alison—”
“Just hurt me,” she begged, clutching my t-shirt between her hands, her eyes wild, darting around as if uncertain where to focus. “You want to. So go ahead.”
“You don’t give the commands here.”
“Then what do you want me to do?” she asked, her voice pleading. “All you need to do is tell me. I’m still yours for a little while.”
Mine…
I pulled Alison closer, our bodies colliding as our lips met. She whimpered from the intensity of it, but she didn’t resist. She held onto me, and I continued to kiss her, the hunger driving me closer to her with each passing second. I lifted her from the ground, her legs wrapping around my waist as I carried her backto the pool table. I laid her down and swiftly unbuttoned her pants, roughly pulling them off and tossing them aside.
Leaning over her, her arms encircled my neck, her fingers tangling in my hair. We both paused for a moment, gazing into each other’s eyes, before I kissed her again, eliciting a soft moan from her. What was I doing? It felt as if I were losing control, her warm body pressed against mine, drawing me into a world of desire. I pulled back momentarily and gripped her by her collar.
“I will never feel sorry for you, Alison,” I whispered, noticing her large, heated eyes. She could no longer deny how much she craved what I did to her. Even if she would never say it aloud, her body yearned for the pleasure I could provide. “You mean absolutely nothing.”
