Alison shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe because you’re familiar, it just makes you... different.”
I studied her for a moment, but she avoided meeting my gaze. I wanted to delve deeper with my questions, but I wasn’t sure if it would lead to a constructive conversation. Instead, I lifted her off the ground and guided her to the bathroom, placing her by the shower and turning on the water.
“We missed lunch. Come downstairs and make dinner after rinsing off,” I ordered her before leaving the room to clean up in my bedroom.
Chapter 37
-Alison-
I followed Jared's instructions and took a quick shower, ensuring the plug was removed before I began my search for some clothing. To my dismay, the only options I could locate were those degrading costumes he had left behind. Among them was even the old high school uniform he had once coerced me into wearing, though it stood as one of the less humiliating choices. Reluctantly, I dressed in it and made my way downstairs.
Jared had successfully found an intact bottle of alcohol. He cradled a glass of it, taking a sip as he heard me enter. He swiftly turned toward me, only to nearly choke on his drink in astonishment.
“What?” I asked, shrugging. “You’ve only got degrading outfits up there. I’d rather be dressed like this than wear another maid outfit.”
Jared's chuckles persisted as he shook his head, but in all fairness, what had he expected? He hadn't left me any ordinary clothing options. I sighed and made my way to the fridge, ready to make some food. I retrieved a selection of vegetables and commenced slicing them into bite-sized pieces, placing them in a pan to sauté. Additionally, I found some bread to toast and prepared a fresh salad to accompany the meal.
“Are we turning into rabbits?” he questioned, watching me move about and prepare the food.
“You know humans don’t need meat every day, right? And you already had some bacon this morning,” I reminded him.
When I turned to look at him, a faint smile on my lips, he gazed at me with disbelief shining in his eyes.
“What?” I inquired.
“You’re not my wife, Alison. You’re my slave, and the condition of my health is none of your concern,” he stated.
I rolled my eyes slightly, but that prompted him to lean over the table and reach for my collar, pulling me closer to him.
“I hope you didn’t just roll your eyes at me,” he taunted. “I thought I had spanked that attitude out of you, or should we go upstairs later?”
“Sorry,” I murmured, casting my eyes down, and Jared released his grip, allowing me to return to preparing the food. Oddly enough, his rough behavior didn't instill fear in me. It felt as if we were slipping back into our old routines, which, strangely, brought a sense of normalcy. However, that newfound normalcy also troubled me, as it was a sensation that shouldn't have felt right.
I attempted to push aside my apprehensions as I continued to cook, but my gaze kept drifting toward Jared. Despite the years that had passed, it was surprisingly easy for us to almost regress into our familiar patterns. Our roles had reversed, but thefamiliarity remained. This month's experiences shouldn't have left such a profound impact on us, but regrettably, they had.
After finishing the meal, I pushed the plate toward Jared. He regarded it skeptically, as if doubting that a dish filled with greens could possibly taste good. Taking a fork, I stabbed a portion and took a bite.
"Not poisonous," I reassured him.
"Easy to fear it. Green is a dangerous color," he remarked, his dark green eyes meeting my own blue ones. I couldn't help but concur. Indeed, they were a dangerous color. Quickly averting my gaze, I focused on my hands resting on the kitchen island as Jared began to eat. He didn't voice any complaints, leading me to believe that he found some enjoyment in it, or perhaps he simply wished to avoid an argument. A comfortable silence enveloped us.
“Tomorrow will mark the last week,” I reminded him.
“Yes,” he replied.
“I’m guessing you have something incredibly sinister in mind for me,” I said before turning my eyes back to him.
“Of course,” he replied calmly.
“Can I get a hint, Master?”
“Wouldn’t that ruin the surprise of it all?” he taunted, taking another bite of his food and offering me a sly smile.
I sighed and crossed my arms, realizing that hoping for him to reveal his plans was futile. I could only imagine that this week would be even more challenging than the previous ones, but he wasn’t giving me any hints about how he intended to make it difficult.
“Quit thinking about it,” he instructed when he noticed me lost in thought. “You’ll find out.”
“That doesn’t calm me.”
