“Exactly!”
“I will just make you lick it up later.”
“What?” I exclaimed, observing the dark smile on his lips as he reached for a towel behind the counter to clean his pants.
“So, it seems we aren’t off to a great start,” he remarked, throwing the towel away.
“Next time, don’t slap my ass unless I ask you to.”
“Understood.”
“Why choose a bar for our date, though? Who goes on a date to a place like this?” I replied, slipping into my role, which granted me more freedom of speech.
“It’s quiet and peaceful here,” he responded, gesturing to the serene atmosphere.
“Is it just going to be the two of us? I should probably leave right now before you decide to murder me.”
I noticed a nerve twitching in his jaw as I continued with my cheeky behavior, but it felt liberating after he had almost completely broken me.
“I won’t touch you again,” he assured me.
“Should I trust your word on that?”
“You should.”
“And why should I?”
“Because something compelled you to come out tonight. Something led you to agree to this date,” he reminded me. “You must be at least a little intrigued by me.”
“So, you invited me then?” I asked, noticing his smile grow as he nodded.
“How could I not? You’re the most popular girl in school.”
“Isn’t it a bit early for us to be in a bar?”
“It depends on the country we’re in.”
For some reason, I found it slightly amusing that we were playing teenagers again. So, I took a seat and turned to face Jared.
“And why did the most popular girl decide to go on a date with you?” I teased.
“Well, you’re here, aren’t you?” he replied.
“All right, let’s say I’m intrigued. What should I know about you, Jared? What makes you worth my time?”
“Is that how you talked to all your dates?”
“Come on, we both know I only dated one guy in high school, and we just broke up. You acted quite fast.”
Jared’s smile widened as we continued to add more details to our little scene. It made the roleplay more enjoyable, and I struggled to contain the excitement that spread within me as Jared focused on me with such a serious expression.
“I had to act fast. Otherwise, I would have lost the courage to approach you. But why did you agree to go out with me? I’m not particularly special,” he admitted, a hint of vulnerability in his words.
“Maybe that’s precisely why I wanted to go out with you. Because you’re different,” I replied, surprising myself with the sincerity in my voice. “My mother would probably disapprove ofme being here. She controls everything. But I suppose I wanted to be bold for once, to make my own choices.”
“Are you suggesting that you didn’t choose the most popular guy in school?” he inquired, not sounding entirely convinced.
I shook my head. “I made everyone believe he was my choice, but our families were just close business partners. ‘It’s for your father, Alison. This way, there will never be any conflicts, because we are family’,” I quoted, recalling the speech my mother had delivered after my disastrous date with Kyle, during which I loathed every moment.
