"Do you want me to do it?" she offered, extending her hand.

I handed her the can, and she shook it before beginning to spray the cream onto the dark surface. I watched over her shoulder as she worked, only to realize she was writing something. She inscribed my name and then my age. I was turning 34, just a little over a year older than her.

Alison stepped back, beaming up at me upon finishing the decoration. Then, she added some small broken pieces of chocolate before reaching for a knife from a nearby drawer.

“Do you want to cut it?” she asked.

I grabbed the knife and sliced a piece of the cake. Alison promptly located a plate and extended it toward me, allowing me to delicately transfer the cake onto it. She then retrieved afork and passed it to me, though I couldn't help but feel a slight apprehension.

“Now, you eat it,” she told me.

“You don’t say.”

“Just try it.”

I did. I dug the fork into the cake, snatching a little piece off, then tasted it. Alison observed my every move, her eyes carrying a glimmer of hope.

“Well?” she pressed.

“What?” I asked and ate some more.

“Does it taste good?”

“Am I not eating it?”

“God!” she exclaimed. “You are the driest person in the world, Jared Tyler.”

Alison extended her hand, swiping her finger through the whipped cream atop the cake, and then smudged it onto my face, knowing my hands were occupied. I was momentarily stunned, and her mischievous laughter filled the air before she shoved her finger into her mouth, moaning around it as she sucked it clean.

“Have I earned a punishment, Master?” she taunted, knowing she had.

I gently placed the plate and fork down before turning my attention to her. She maintained her confident smile, ready to challenge me, just as she had on our first day. Stepping closer, I contemplated lifting her and taking her back to the blue room, but then my gaze landed on the cake beside us.

A smile tugged at my lips, baffling Alison. However, I retaliated by swiping some cream off the cake and smearing it across her face. She gasped, clearly caught off guard, but I drew her close, trailing my tongue along her cheek, following the cream's path, and ultimately reaching her lips. The mixture of cream on our lips intensified the kiss, and another moan escaped her, this time genuine, as she began undressing me.

I fumbled with her clothes, my desire mounting. The blue room was no longer on my mind. We weren't going to make it up there now. I pushed Alison to the ground, my urgency evident. I roughly removed her pants and shoved them down, while she did the same to mine. There wasn't much room for her to spread her legs, but she didn't beg me to stop. Instead, she clung to me, her nails digging into the back of my neck as I began to move.

I wasn't entirely sure what had transformed this encounter. The punishment had evolved into something entirely different. In an instant, we lost sight of who we were, surrendering to the moment, reveling in the fact that nothing else mattered but this—fucking great birthday sex. Pleasure coursed through me rapidly, Alison's panting filling my ears before a small cry escaped her lips as she shuddered beneath me.

"Jared," she whispered as she came down from her high, yet I sensed something was missing from her sentence. However, my focus was momentarily elsewhere, my orgasm impending. I thrust deeper, increasing the pace, until the ecstasy surged through me, causing me to climax intensely with a deep groan.

"You were my dream."

At first, her words didn't register. Lost in the sensation of my release, I didn't fully comprehend them. But as I slowly returned to my senses, their meaning began to dawn on me. I tried to divert my thoughts elsewhere, to reject what Vince had warned me about and what I refused to accept because it meant...

I moved back, staring down at Alison, whose tear-filled eyes met mine. She found it difficult to hold my gaze and was biting her lip, clearly struggling with her revelation because she understood the implications. However, it no longer mattered. It didn't matter what I had been to her, what she had yearned for from me, what I had failed to notice. Our time together was coming to an end, and any obsession that had festered over the years, over this month, needed to die.

"Alison," I called out, and her eyes finally met mine. "I can only hate you."

She closed her eyes, turning away from me, and in that moment, I realized it—I had broken her. I had succeeded, but it wasn't a victory. It was just another moment in a series of many. I pulled out of her, adjusted my clothing, and left her on the floor. The war was over. There was no reason to continue playing the game.

Chapter 49

-Alison-

I held the bag in my hand that Jared had packed when he came to my house a month ago. It was filled with all my belongings, and now all I needed to do was go back home to finally escape this nightmare once and for all. After the confession I had made yesterday, Jared had disappeared. He didn’t return to the bedroom that night. In fact, he didn’t come back until morning, by which time I was already up, dressed, and packed. Now I stood in the entrance, waiting for him to get a chance to get ready and change.

It had been painful to see him standing there as I emerged from the closet with my bag. We froze, locking eyes with one another before he hurried past me. I knew I had been a fool, but I had become lost in our brief taste of a normal world. I had allowed myself to dream, and I had finally told him what I had suppressed for so long—I wanted him. Jared had always been an unattainable dream, and I had suppressed those feelings for solong that my own confession surprised even me. However, it was also strangely liberating, even though I knew it was far from too late. How could he ever stop hating me? It seemed impossible.
